Fort Lauderdale, Fla., April 14, 2011 – South Florida Green Drinks (http://www.southfloridagreendrinks.org), an environmental non-profit group, recently announced its 2nd Annual Eco-Lifestyle Gala, scheduled to take place Thursday, May 19 at the exclusive Boca Raton Resort & Club. The event is designed to honor environmental stewardship and support socially conscious causes through fundraising and community support. This year, Green Drinks will recognize celebrity actress and philanthropist, Patricia Arquette, with its prestigious Eco-Lifestyle Pioneer Award for her work with GiveLove, a non-profit Haiti relief organization she founded in 2010. Arquette will serve as the honorary hostess of Green Drinks’ 2011 Eco-Lifestyle Gala. The event will support GiveLove’s work to improve housing and sanitary conditions in Haiti, as well as Global Green USA’s greener rebuilding efforts in Haiti.

 "I am very honored to be recognized by South Florida Green Drinks with the Eco-Lifestyle Pioneer Award,” Arquettte states. “GiveLove has been the most meaningful work of my life. The financial support of this event will afford our organization the ability to continue driving much needed Eco-Sanitation and Green Housing Solutions in Haiti. To date, we have housed 170 children, built numerous classrooms and provided ongoing sanitation treatment for over 1000 people. I’m very excited to meet the forward thinking donors of South Florida, which has a strong Haitian community, and to work together to make a significant positive and lasting contribution to the people of Haiti."

 Founded by Patricia Arquette and Rosetta Millington-Getty, GiveLove develops temporary housing solutions and improved sanitation systems in Haiti, since the poverty stricken country was hit by a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 M earthquake in 2010. Through technical support and training, GiveLove promotes ecological sanitation and small-scale projects to hygienically treat and recycle human and organic waste at schools and community-based compost centers throughout Haiti.

 “We’re delighted to have the opportunity to honor Patricia Arquette and GiveLove for their socially conscious commitment to the relief efforts in Haiti,” Marci Zaroff, co-founder and chairman of South Florida Green Drinks, states. “Their support continues to address the needs of so many Haitian’s who were devastated by the 2010 earthquake.  Last year, South Florida Green Drinks’ inaugural Eco-Lifestyle Gala honored environmental advocate, model and celebrity, Lauren Bush, who received the 2010 Eco-Lifestyle Pioneer Award; serving as the event’s honorary host. It attracted 300 guests and raised money for Global Green USA and greener rebuilding initiatives in Haiti, in partnership with the Office Depot Foundation.

 Once again, Global Green USA and The Office Depot Foundation are partnering with Green Drinks’ 2nd Annual Eco-Lifestyle Gala, which is anticipated to attract more than 500 guests to the exclusive Boca Raton Resort & Club. The evening boasts an impressive line-up of live musicians and entertainers, including NYC Comedian Jessica Kirson, DJ Mark Leventhal, and renowned Native Rock musician, Robby Romero. On August 5th, 2010, Palm Beach Green Drinkers met a new venue for the first time - the Sky 309 bar on top of Roxy's Pub in downtown West Palm Beach.  We had great weather, great drinks, and needless to say, a great speaker - Amanda Gaston-James - who described her research into the local and organic farms in the Palm Beach and Broward County areas.  She also spoke about her favorite restaurants in the area and how to best inquire about where the foods are sourced.  For those that would like to know more, Amanda provided her blog address:  http://helenalockey.blogspot.com where she has listed the local farms she has visited and researched and she has placed her restaurant reviews online as well:  http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/126871/helen_a_lockey.html

]]>Boca/Delray Green Drinks loves LEED Gold!http://www.southfloridagreendrinks.org/blog/2010/8/11/bocadelray-green-drinks-loves-leed-gold.htmlSouth Florida Green Drinks2010-08-11T18:34:14Z2010-08-11T18:34:14ZOn July 22nd, 2010, the Boca/Delray Green Drinkers met at Sequil Systems in downtown Delray Beach to discover all the cool LEED aspects that had been incorporated into their space.  This space is the first in Delray Beach to be awarded a LEED Gold certification and includes features such as:  68% of existing interior components being retained, 90% of the furnishings were reused, reclaimed, or recycled, 61% energy reduction using compact fluorescent lamps, 17% of construction materials were reused or reclaimed, abundant daylighting, and portions of flooring using reclaimed middle school gymnasium wood.  Here are a few pictures from our time discovering this amazing location!   

        

 

]]>What are you doing to GREEN your Summer 2010?http://www.southfloridagreendrinks.org/blog/2010/7/2/what-are-you-doing-to-green-your-summer-2010.htmlSouth Florida Green Drinks2010-07-02T14:53:49Z2010-07-02T14:53:49Z Last night, July 1st, 2010, Palm Beach Green Drinks met at Pistache Bistro in downtown West Palm Beach and shared some of the ways that we have been greening our summers.  It was a great turnout and so many fun ideas were discussed.  Just some of the things that the Green Drinkers have been doing include reducing their water consumption by using aerators on faucets, reduction of paper towel use in the office environment, using organic/local foods at summer parties and BBQs, and several of us shared some of the alternatives to paper plates/cups that we have all found.  Here are just a few of us from the night hanging out at the beautiful bar area inside Pistache.  Lovin' Dean's enthusiasm in the back!  Thanks for coming out everyone - Stay tuned for our new location change for next month!

]]>Earth Day and Beyondhttp://www.southfloridagreendrinks.org/blog/2010/6/14/earth-day-and-beyond.htmlSouth Florida Green Drinks2010-06-14T11:46:53Z2010-06-14T11:46:53ZWow - it seems like our Eco-Lifestyle Gala was just last week but it's already been 2 months since we celebrated the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day!  If you didn't make it out to the event in April, the Board Members (pictured below at the event) hope you will be able to attend next year since it was such a great time.  We are hoping to make the Eco-Lifestyle Gala an annual event, where we can focus on several aspects of living a sustainable South Florida lifestyle and bring them closer to all our homes.  This year we focused on two great organizations, Global Green USA and the Office Depot Foundation, that are working to support green building projects in Haiti, and we also had some fun through fashion, food, and great mingling.  We also awarded JM Family for their sustainable business practices by giving them the Eco-Lifestyle Award.  As we hear more about these organizations and what they are doing in Haiti, and locally, we will let everyone in our community know.  They will be adding the $12,000 raised from the event (again, thanks to everyone who attended and to all our sponsors who made this donation possible!) to their project and keep us updated on progress.    It's been really exciting for all the Green Drinkers in our area to come together and create some change and we hope this is only the beginning.  We are already thinking about next year's Earth Day event and how to make it even better!
